Encyclopédie mondiale des arts de la marionnette
Creators: Thieri Foulc, Henryk Jurkowsky
| Contents/Chapters: This voluminous encyclopedia is the first comprehensive work on puppetry. It provides a cultural, artistic and technical description of puppetry around the world, throughout history, in its many forms and functions. The idea of a World Encyclopedia of Puppetry Arts was born in 1978 within the UNIMA Publications Commission, at the instigation of its then president, Dezsö Szilagyí, director of the National Puppet Theatre in Budapest. He was responsible for the preliminary work. After many stages, Henryk Jurkowski, professor at the Warsaw School of Drama and outgoing president of UNIMA, was appointed editor-in-chief in 1994. He laid the groundwork for the book and, with collaborators on several continents, gathered abundant material and around a quarter of the manuscript, until 2000. In 2003, the project was entrusted to a professional team headed by Thieri Foulc, who was able to complete the manuscript in February 2006, with the help of numerous collaborators. A partnership agreement was signed with a French publisher, l'Entretemps, which in 2008 obtained the support of its Centre national du livre to finalize the financing of the production, partly aided by Unima. | Materials: 862 p. illus ; 30 cm
