Christian Carrignon is a director and co-director, with Katy Deville, of Théâtre de Cuisine; Jean-Luc Mattéoli is a doctor in theater studies. One practices theater with objects, the other is interested in "poor" objects (often salvaged) on contemporary theater stages. In this book, written by four hands, they examine together the territory covered by the expression "object theater". While acknowledging its kinship with puppetry, and positing it as a prerequisite, they nevertheless seek to identify the way in which this form of theater, which gradually emerged with the memorial wave of the 1970s, both maintains a close relationship with the objects of our contemporary societies and the obsolescence that now governs their lifespan, and, at the same time, introduces new modes of storytelling.
