Théâtre populaire : actualité d’une utopie
Creators: Bernard Faivre (Textes réunis par)
| Contents/Chapters: What's the point of bringing out of mothballs this outdated and problematic notion of Théâtre Populaire? It's certainly problematic. You could even say that it has always been problematic, constantly oscillating between the demand for a theater for the people and the dream of a theater by the people. On the one hand, the constantly renewed (and sometimes dogmatic) effort to elaborate the right content and repertoire for a theater at the service of the people; on the other, the Rousseauist temptation to dilute theatrical representation into a party where the people are delighted to see themselves gathered together. Whether the need for theater by and for the people has lost some of its acuity today is far less certain. It seemed to the designers of this issue that it was a little early to follow the burial of a Théâtre populaire, too soon snatched from the affection of its friends, and buried under flowers and wreaths so that everyone could be sure it would never leave its grave.t | Materials: 144 p.; ill. in black; 24 cm
