Théâtre, fabrique d’Europe
Creators: Emmanuel Wallon (Textes réunis par)
| Contents/Chapters: Dramatic art is closely linked to the European idea, not only because it acquired its importance and autonomy in the same urban space where its buildings took root in the heart of cities and its companies travelled from carnivals to festivals, but also because it invested the territories of thought and the lands of the imagination in which this political construction emerged. While it's not its vocation to provide the grand narratives, velvet draperies or star-spangled symbols on a blue background that will make the Union more attractive to citizens, theater does prove capable of exploring the detours of their consciousness and accompanying their quest for meaning, insofar as it brings into play the specificity of languages, the sensitivity of bodies, the subjectivity of perceptions, the relativity of identities and the complexity of conflicts. With no pretensions to a monopoly on representation, and aware that new genres of spectacle have overtaken it in audience and power, it is unrivalled in its ability to bring together original views and particular perceptions. He knows better than any other how to expose a state of the world whose confusion calls, if not for common thought, at least for a certain degree of shared lucidity. His lively use of doubt, which forbids neither humor nor audacity, stimulates the imagination of those who refuse to consider Europe as a sacred heritage or as a completed temple. | Material: 188 p. ; 24 cm
