| Contents/Chapters: Studies and essays, testimonials and interviews: this collection endeavors to take stock, through different modes of expression, of the new relationships between theater and dance that have been developing in our countries (Germany, Belgium, France) for decades. The multiple hybridization phenomena to which they give rise have now gained ground. However, they remain difficult to define in terms of their ins and outs, their limits and their scope. The title chosen, Theatre and Dance, opens up the question of the relationship between the two arts, rather than closing it by postulating the creation of a mixed art that could be likened to a third, codifiable genre. As for the notion of crossover, it offers the advantage of preserving the possibility of variable associations, ranging from juxtaposition to compenetration, between theater and dance. Of course, Pina Bausch's Tanztheater, an obligatory reference point, has triggered or inspired the exploration here carried out from one territory to another. Nevertheless, we'd like to start by recalling that the two arts had long been paired, historically speaking, before their relative, but not definitive, separation. One might think that this path was always taken in reaction, from one excess to the other. But perhaps this century of contrasts has served to put an end to the separation of genres. That's what we'd like to shed light on at the start of this survey, using the chance of encounters and curiosities to begin to sketch out a landscape with a cultural history of the body as its backdrop. This landscape will be spread over two volumes of Études théâtrales. | Material: 188 p. ; 24 cm
