| Contents/Chapters: The Institut international de la marionnette has just celebrated twenty years of the École nationale supérieure des arts de la marionnette (ESNAM). We thought it would be useful to take this opportunity to take stock, through testimonials and by tracing the school's history. But we also felt it necessary to reflect on the practice of transmission, the basis of all teaching and an indispensable condition for preparing ESNAM for a future in line with the new challenges of a knowledge-based society and a creative economy. Today's École supérieure des arts de la marionnette is also a space for reflection and exchange on puppetry and theater. In this sense, ESNAM cannot be seen without the Centre de documentation et de ressources of the Institut international de la marionnette, nor without the researchers in residence who come to work in Charleville-Mézières.
